Laboratory Introduction
This laboratory focuses on orchid biology using genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and functional genomics approaches. Research topics include the molecular mechanisms of orchid floral development, the evolutionary developmental basis of floral bilateral symmetry in orchids, and the analysis of secondary metabolites in orchids.
Research Directions
I. Comparative genomics of orchids
Orchids account for approximately 10% of all flowering plants. Their unique floral morphology and remarkable diversity of life strategies have enabled them to adapt successfully to a wide range of habitats on Earth. We apply comparative genomics and related approaches to analyze orchid genomic information, aiming to uncover the origin and evolutionary history of orchids and to understand the genetic basis of their environmental adaptability.

II. Molecular regulation of orchid floral development
The unique and diverse floral morphology of Orchidaceae has fascinated botanists and orchid enthusiasts for centuries. The complex floral structures of orchids provide an excellent system for exploring the origin and evolution of genes involved in floral organ formation and their roles in shaping novel floral morphologies. Our research focuses on elucidating the molecular developmental processes and evolutionary trajectories underlying orchid floral morphogenesis.

III. Secondary metabolomics in Orchidaceae
Orchids have a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, dating back to the Shennong Bencao Jing, which recorded 365 medicinal plants, including several orchid species. This classic text provides important guidance on the medicinal applications of orchids. Therefore, identifying novel bioactive compounds from orchids with pharmaceutical potential holds significant future promise.

- In the past five years, 19 SCI-indexed papers have been published, with a total Impact Factor of 134.34 and an average IF above 7 per paper; including one first-author paper in Nature Genetics and one corresponding-author paper in Nature
- Completed 10 research projects in the past five years, obtained 4 patents, and completed 1 technology transfer
