2025 National 3-Minute Life Sciences Thesis Oral Presentation Competition (Southern Regional Preliminary Round)

To promote biological sciences and cultivate interdisciplinary communication skills among young scholars, the Department of Life Sciences, National Cheng Kung University is organizing the “3-Minute Life Sciences Thesis Oral Presentation Competition (Southern Regional Preliminary Round).”

1. Organizer: Department of Life Sciences, National Cheng Kung University

2. Eligibility:

1. Undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in life science-related departments.
2. Full-time or part-time research assistants and postdoctoral researchers employed by faculty members in life science-related departments.
3. Applicants must have individual research outputs (thesis content must be based on personal research only).
4. Previous winners of this competition are not eligible to participate again.

3. Competition Rules:

1. Presentation order will be determined by random draw by the organizer.
2. Timing begins once the participant steps into the designated area; each presentation is strictly limited to 3 minutes. Exceeding the time limit will result in disqualification.
3. Oral presentation only; no equipment or physical aids are allowed.
4. Only one static slide is permitted (no additional visual or audio equipment may be used).
5. The presentation language is Mandarin Chinese.
6. In case of tied scores, judges will make the final decision.

4. Evaluation Criteria:

Judging will be conducted by professionals based on the following criteria:

1. Clear communication of the topic
2. Clarity of speech and presentation skills
3. Research development potential and completeness
4. Ability to engage audience interest

5. Awards:

1. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

2. A total of 10 outstanding participants will be selected from the southern region to advance to the final round. Each will receive a prize of NTD 4,000 and a certificate of merit.

6. Registration Information:

1. The southern regional preliminary round is limited to 35 participants, accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via the registration website. Registration is open from September 9 (Tue) to October 3 (Fri), 5:00 PM. Late submissions will not be accepted.

2. Each participant may submit only one slide. Violations may result in withdrawal of the application.

3. Deadline for slide revisions is October 15, 114 (Wed), 5:00 PM.

4. Do not include any identifiable information in the slides (e.g., institution, department, personal details, or logos).

5. Please ensure all images used are properly authorized to respect intellectual property rights.

6. Required documents:

• One-page Chinese abstract with advisor’s signature (A4, Times New Roman/standard font equivalent, size 14, line spacing 20 pt fixed).
• Chinese abstract form (PDF) – Attachment 2; Word version – Attachment 3.
• One presentation slide file (max 1MB), in 16:9 format.
