2024 National 3-Minute Life Science Thesis Oral Presentation Competition (Southern Preliminary Round)
To promote life sciences and cultivate interdisciplinary communication skills among young researchers, the Department of Life Sciences at National Cheng Kung University is hosting the “3-Minute Life Science Thesis Oral Presentation Competition (Southern Preliminary Round).”

1. Organizer: Department of Life Sciences, NCKU
2. Eligibility
- Undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in life science-related departments
- Full-time, part-time assistants, and postdoctoral researchers employed by life science-related departments or institutes
- Participants must have individual research output (presentations must be based on personal research work only)
- Previous winners of this competition are not eligible to participate again
3. Competition Rules
- Presentation order will be determined by random draw.
- Timing starts once the contestant steps into the designated area; exceeding 3 minutes will result in disqualification.
- Only oral presentation is allowed; no physical devices or aids may be used.
- Only one static slide is allowed (no additional visual or audio aids permitted).
- Presentation language: Mandarin Chinese.
- In case of a tie, final decision will be made by the judges.
4. Evaluation Criteria
- Clarity of topic communication
- Speech delivery and presentation style
- Research development potential and completeness
- Ability to engage the audience
5. Awards
1. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
2. Top 10 winners from the southern region will advance to the final round and receive NT$3,500 each; 5 excellence awards will receive NT$1,500 each.
6. Registration Information
1. Maximum of 35 participants in the southern preliminary round. Registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis via the online system. Registration period: Aug 26, 2024 (Mon) – Sept 27, 2024 (Tue), 5:00 PM. Late submissions will not be accepted.
2. Each participant may submit only one slide. Violations may result in withdrawal of application.
3. Deadline for slide revision submission: Oct 2, 2024 (Wed), 5:00 PM.
4. Slides must not contain identifiable personal or institutional information (e.g., university name or logo).
5. Respect intellectual property rights; do not use unauthorized images.
6. Required documents:
- One-page Chinese abstract with advisor signature (A4, font: BiauKai 14pt, 20-line spacing)
- Abstract form (PDF), Abstract form (Word)
- Single presentation slide (max 1MB, 16:9 format recommended)
All application materials must be uploaded to personal cloud storage, and the download link must be provided in the registration form.
