The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) organizes the “2024 8th Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival,” encouraging organizations to present stories of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative and visual storytelling to promote sustainability achievements. A total of 183 works from across Taiwan participated in the competition. Two National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) USR project films were awarded the “Sustainability Microfilm Award” and were honored at the awards ceremony held on August 9 at the Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo. The winning entries include the USR project “Accompanying 2026” with its film *Active Aging in Daily Life*, represented by Longevi-ty Community Chief Wu Yun-Yan, and the USR project “Badlands Collaboration” with its film *Building, Renewing New Life*, represented by Bamboo Forest Park Director Zhang Jun-Bo.

At the 2024 8th Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival awards ceremony, NCKU received two Sustainability Microfilm Awards, including the USR “Accompanying 2026” project.

*Active Aging in Daily Life* explores healthy lifestyle patterns in a super-aged society and promotes healthy aging across life stages.

The project team integrates multiple resources and has worked in more than 10 communities, helping over 900 older adults develop exercise habits. NCKU students and senior fitness volunteers work together: students support through coursework and research, while volunteers provide long-term community engagement. The team has also expanded internationally, introducing drumming-based exercise programs to older adults in Singapore and Australia.

The “Accompanying 2026” project aims to promote an active lifestyle among older adults by integrating exercise, physical activity, and positive health attitudes into daily life. Its mission is to create a new lifestyle model that supports healthy and positive aging, enabling older adults to embrace the next stage of life.

The second awarded entry is the USR “Badlands Collaboration” project, *Building, Renewing New Life*.

*Building, Renewing New Life* depicts a journey of awakening in the bamboo industry, walking forward together in the midst of adversity.

Since 2019, the NCKU Badlands Collaboration team has conducted research on regional industrial chains, mapped bamboo forest resources, and built rare foundational rural databases. The team has also co-created bamboo-based installation art with community partners and facilitated dialogue among industry, government, academia, and research stakeholders to strengthen trust and collaboration.

The bamboo forests in the badlands region and the people living there share a resilient vitality, jointly envisioning a sustainable and mutually beneficial bamboo industry ecosystem.

The bamboo forests and local communities in the badlands region share strong resilience, working together toward friendly coexistence and sustainable development.

NCKU’s outstanding performance in implementing USR initiatives has gained wide recognition. Since launching the first phase of the Ministry of Education’s University Social Responsibility Practice Program in 2017, the university has actively participated in the Taipei Golden Eagle Microfilm Festival since 2022, sharing stories of social engagement and demonstrating its commitment to sustainability.
